Beltane

Spring Event at Ngatahi: A Gay Beltane

Labour weekend October 19th to 22nd 2012

This spring at Ngatahi we will be celebrating a gay Beltane. We will be shaking off the burden of winter to enter into the joy of summer living. We will celebrate our passion and seek the blessing of the season.

Beltane. The time to fertilize your new dreams into action. The basic tradition of Beltane is this:
The Celtic year is divided in half: the dark and the light. Samhain begins the year with the dark half; its counterpart, Beltane, is the beginning of the light half.
Samhain and Beltane therefore divide the year into the two primary seasons, Winter and Summer. The Earth Mother gives birth to the Sun God at the winter solstice. At Beltane he has reached maturity and is ready to mate with the Earth Mother. So this festival to celebrate the start of summer is combined with the erotic courtship of the Earth Mother and the Sun God. It is a festival of youth and young love, of lust and fertility. The passion and fertility of the gods’ lovemaking brings success to the land and the animals as well as providing a source of inspiration to man for his passions; sexual and otherwise. In the past, what happened in the woods on the night of the festival, as they say, stayed in the woods. But any relationship that formed was considered to be doubly blessed.

Also, dreams that turn into plans at this time were said to be blessed as well. So come and join the fun of Saturday: a shared meal leading to a ritual around the garden concluding with lighting the fire of the gods passion. The following morning we partake in another ritual at the fireplace. Stay on for the rest of Sunday and Monday and enjoy the beautiful garden or travel out to explore Hawke's Bay.

This will be a clothes optional weekend. Along with the passions of the Gods you choose how you express your own passions. Those attending can be assured that they will be safe from harassment because by choosing to come each participant agrees to respect the boundaries of others.

Accommodation will be at the standard Ngatahi rates, so book one of the rooms, a bed in the bunkroom, or bring a tent. Breakfasts will be included in the price. You will need to bring food for lunches and food to share for BBQ’s each evening. A supermarket is five minutes’ drive away.

Full details of what to bring will be given to those who register
